The Legend of Gonia

The Clash of Spirits

Listen. Before they were myths, our gods and creatures were spirits, and the tribes fought in secret to possess them.

The Fall of the Star

Long ago, a star fell from the sky and shattered. The ancients called it Gonia. By morning, its fragments glittered everywhere in the dust. The largest fell far from sight… and some struck beasts.

The Djinns

Soon, huge translucent beasts came prowling near the villages. They devoured the stones of light. People feared them, then worshipped them: they were the Djinns. One day they vanished, leaving behind only great, lifeless fragments.

The Akrios

Around each one, the ancients built an altar and fed it with fragments. One night, the Djinns returned. They became the totems of the tribes. This sanctuary was called the Akrios.

The First Dreamer

Then a crystal lit up near the Akrios, and a spirit of light emerged from it. It touched a man, who sank into sleep… and lightning struck a rival village. When he woke, the man said he had guided the spirit in a dream. He was the first Dreamer.

The Awakening Ceremony

Ever since, a fragment is laid on every newborn to read its fate. If it lights up, the child will be a Summoner. If it fades, a Dreamer. If it sinks into the skin, a Guardian. If it shatters, a Slayer.

The Arena of Gonia

But the thirst for spirits led the tribes to war, and so many crystals were shattered… So they made a pact: from then on, the tribes would face each other in an arena named Gonia, in honour of the star that fell long ago. And no one knows what will awaken when the last fragment is gathered…

The Warriors of Vukonda

High in the mountains lives the Vukonda tribe, watched over by its Djinn. It is said that its first Dreamers called lightning down upon their enemies. But war took that legendary crystal from them. They have been searching for it ever since.

Those who fight for Vukonda

The Summoner

The fragment lights up. The captain of the tribe. He does not fight with his own hands: he alone awakens the crystals on the Akrios and entrusts their spirits to his warriors. Without his voice, the tribe would shatter.

The Dreamer

The fragment fades. His fragment awakens only in dreams. He carries it set in a staff and falls into a trance to unleash the spirit's power, for the span of a dream.

The Guardian

The fragment sinks in. The crystal shows just beneath his skin and gives him supernatural agility. Unable to slay a Djinn, he watches over the Akrios and drives the beast back with his shield.

The Slayer

The fragment shatters. From its shards a weapon was forged that only he can wield. He is the only living being able to slay a Djinn.

The Djinn

The totem. Released by the Akrios once the tribe has poured enough fragments into it, he charges straight for the enemy Akrios, ravaging everything in his path.

Twisted by time, all our myths remember the same story: the clash of the spirits of Gonia.
