The myth
Among the Māori, a tipua is a supernatural being that dwells in a rock, a tree or a drifting log, and can change its shape. Travellers left an offering as they passed it, for fear it would carry them off.
In the Arena
In the Arena, Tipua's spirit slips into the tiles themselves. The warrior takes two steps, one at a time, and every tile he touches opens beneath the enemy standing on it. Those who left no offering are gone when the warrior moves on.
In play
The warrior moves 2 adjacent tiles, one at a time, and captures the enemies on every tile he crosses.
